|The Ulrich 5
So far I think this 'lil blog of mine has turned into a chicken fest but, seriously! These goofy birds have brought a lot of entertainment and joy to the Ulrich house. The kids (& dog) love to chase them, they're fascinating to watch, and they're really starting to pull their weight. I could do without the pound of poop they produce every week, but I digress.
We now have a second bird laying! This comes with its own funny story. Today I headed out to start rounding up the afore mentioned pound of poop and realized that we were short a bird. I looked under and on top of everything, but couldn't find her. After 30 minutes of running around like a chicken with my head cut off (haha sorry I had to), I went across the street to ask my fellow chicken lady to count her birds and see if she had an extra. Sure enough, our little Chestnut had gone visiting. She was nestled down in one of her birds laying spots, cozy as could be. I am glad she went someplace safe. We have a large playful male kitten next door that has been playing 'pounce on the birds' this week. I was a little scared he had taken up snacking on them too. When we got her home she was acting weird. Going under the deck, behind and on top of the air conditioner, in and out of the coop, and back over the fence. Just odd behavior for her. I had a feeling she was looking for a place to lay. So I skipped the poop scooping and locked all the girls in their pen for the rest of the day. When I checked on them later we had our first perfect little green egg.
The answer to the world's most asked question "Why did the chicken cross the road?" To make new friends with the neighbors flock. I know, I'm a dork.
In other news... Jade had a very busy weekend of activities. She was invited to a formal tea party, a roller skating party, and the symphony. Overall a really busy week. Thursday we had Girl Scouts, Friday was Ice Skating, Saturday was her fancy tea party, Sunday we went roller skating in the morning and went to the symphony in the afternoon. The roller skating party was to benefit a local charity. The little girl has people bring new unwrapped toys to her birthday party, then donates them instead of keeping them for herself. The toys we took are going to find a new home with a local displaced family. Very happy about that, and I love that idea! I wish I had taken the camera to the tea party. Seeing a dozen 1st to 3rd grade girls in fancy holiday dresses mixing their own teas was just too cute for words. There was also an instrument 'petting zoo' prior to the symphony, so Jade got to try out a variety of instruments, including the cello and violin.
Roan's vocabulary is growing so fast. I am constantly impressed with how quickly he learns new things. At this point you'd think I wouldn't be surprised by it, but I still am. Favorite Roan quote of the week "Mom, that's not silly. It's ridiculous." He is also using the big potty full time. YAY!! No accidents in about 2 weeks. Again, shocked at how quickly that happened.
Ayla started dancing this week! I am not sure it gets much cuter. Roan and Jade both rocked to music at this age. Ayla gets down! It is hilarious to watch.
We are glad to be into December and closing out 2011. Heading to Selah for Christmas is always the last thing we do before the new year. Hoping to squeeze in visiting all around. Ayla really is not a fan of the car, so I am not exactly looking forward to the trip this time. She is also not exactly a good sleeper, and that makes a tiring trip an exhausting one. BUT, I love our Griswold style family get togethers & they are always worth it. Nerf gun fights with cousins and Uncle Brown (Brian).
This December we also have extra reason to be happy. We have a new niece on the way! She should be here by the end of the month, officially due December 23rd. Chad's brother Sam and his wife Amanda are expecting their 1st child, and its a GIRL.
We have so many reasons to smile. I hope you do too.
